Operational Risk in Practice

The seminar Operational Risk in Practice is organized as an open seminar for employees from different institutions and also as an in-house seminar organized for employees of clients with tailor made requirements.

Objectives of the seminar

The first part of the seminar covers the overall framework of operational risk - its identification, measurement and management. During the second part we will discuss the practical implementation of operational risk management with emphasis on the assessment of exposure to operational risk, risk appetite and key risk indicators (KRI). Furthermore, differences in top-down and bottom-up approaches to operational risk management, organizational arrangements, three lines of defense and the role of action plans will be discussed. The seminar will also introduce related topics, such as Business Continuity Management, operational risk in IS / IT, reputation risk and outsourcing.

The seminar is intended primarily for risk managers and specialists responsible for operational risk, internal auditors and compliance officers.

Mgr. Ing. Václav Novotný

Ing. Jiří Kliment, Local Risk and Compliance Manager, Československá obchodní banka, a. s.


Jiří Kliment has been working at ČSOB since 2011 and is responsible for consulting and direct support of sales departments in the Retail segment in the management of operational, information and compliance risks.

In 2000–2011, Jiří Kliment was the head of the Operational Risk Management Department at Česká spořitelna, a. s., which he founded. The team was responsible for managing operational risks, including Business Continuity Management, Outsourcing Management, Fraud Management and Insurance.

Prior to 2000, he held various positions at Erste Bank in the Czech Republic and Česká spořitelna, a. s.

Jiří Kliment graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University.
